Finally, it’s here, the day
I’ve been waiting and preparing for. Yup, today is the day
we all meet at Land Between the Lakes in
Kentucky .
I take off from the Missouri
area, Kevin, Jason, Jasen, Timmy and Kyle leave the Illinois
area both requiring a 6 hour drive.
We meet up around 1:00 .
After the meeting and greeting it’s time to hit the trails.
Gassed up, helmet on, we ride for about 15 minutes. We’re
heading up a hill and I tag a tree root with my right front
tire. Bam!! Next thing I know is I’m rolling up the hill.
The quad took a tumble and ends up being upside down.
Luckily I suit up well with chest protector, shin, knee and
elbow guards. Quickly roll the quad back on 4 wheels and
take off riding. Immediately I notice the steering has a
problem. Tie rod bent, oh no. Actually no problem, I brought
3 spares and Kevin had a new one left over from his Z400
days. Got the new one installed and hit the trails again.
We got in about 4 more hours
and were on the last ride of the day when Jasen had a skid
plate coming loose while we where heading back to the pits.
We got his quad capable to ride when he went 50 feet more
and the chain came off and got lodged between the sprocket
and swing arm. Shortly we got him going again and all was
well.
Off to the Cabin for a
shower, good meal and sleep.
Friday morning all the quads got a check off to
ensure a good day’s ride.
Perfect!! It rained slightly
over night and dust wasn’t an issue all day. For anyone who
ever rode in a group knows that anyplace after the leader
sucks visually. I think the day went great all day except
for a tree that jumped in front of Kyle and rearranged his
front bumper. I don’t remember for sure but I think it now
matches the rear grab bar on his quad too. I think we got
about 9 hours of riding that day. When I say 9 hours of
riding I mean 9 hours of totally leaving the rest of the
world elsewhere.
After riding it was shower
time and off to supper at a nice restaurant for steak and
potato. No double dipping in the butter!!
Saturday morning, check quads, gas up, and back to
the riding park.
We rode for a couple hours
and split the group. Some wanted to focus on hill climbs,
some wanted to focus on speedy trail riding. We split and
went our separate ways. I’ll never figure out how there can
some 2000 acres of riding area and we can cross paths with
the other group. We got another 9 to 10 hours of riding.
I joined an ATV club so I
could do rides just like this one. If anyone wants to get
away and ride, ride, ride, I recommend this ride. Whether we
are riding or eating or just resting between rides it’s
always full memories and riding.
